Argentina Photo of the Week–Flower Seller

This photo was taken on the Avenida las Heras in Mendoza, near the Mercado Central.  This busy street is full of people and colectivos (buses), and home to chain restaurants and stores.  The area is the shopping district of Mendoza's working class.  Leather and shoe shops (as well as the requisite sidewalk cafes) line the streets.

The flower seller was a welcome respite from all the bustle and noise–a spot of calm in a sea of chaos.  I imagine young women stopping here after work to get a bouquet of flowers to brighten up their deptos (slang for apartments), young men wooing their sweethearts, families buying flowers for mom or grandma.  The flower stand is a reminder in all the frenzy to (oh, pardon the pun!) stop and smell the roses.
